Started off my Stephen King rabbit hole journey with this horror novel with a horrifying situation I hope I never experience. My first initial impression while reading was that I liked the movie more than the book. The book starts off a little slow and there were some parts that I skimmed over and didn’t pay much attention to because the plot seemed like it was dragging on. BUT once I got deeper into the grit of the story and the plot became more exhilarating, the book came alive wielding an axe. Going straight for bone, the book is WAY better than the movie. The anticipation, the sadistic torture, the gore, and the horror!😱
I’ve never read a book that made me physically cringe and almost jump out of my bed from disbelief. But MISERY made me freak and nearly rip my hair out as I came to the gruesomely horrific climax. In the end, despite all of the horrors, the novel ends with the hope of promise, suggesting there is another light at the end of the tunnel.
Initial reading: 6/10
After finishing reading: 8/10 (the gore scenes really sealed the deal. They were so well executed and the build-up to them was insane)
Final last thoughts:
THE BOOK IS WAY BETTER THAN THE MOVIE
Annie Wilkes is one insane antagonist
